Develop your pupils’ confidence with mental and written arithmetic strategies with these Fluent in Five daily arithmetic questions for weeks 13 to 18 of Year 1.
The questions are presented as an editable PowerPoint presentation and as worksheets to improve pupils speed and accuracy with arithmetic questions.
This daily practice resource is designed to enhance speed and accuracy in maths, offering a broad range of questions that align with the KS1 maths curriculum.
With 90 questions spread across the 12 weeks, the resource incorporates a mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The questions progressively build in complexity, ensuring pupils grasp fundamental concepts before advancing.
Encourage pupils to choose whether to use a mental or written method when answering. Answers identify which would be the most efficient method for each question.
We recommend teachers integrate this resource into their daily maths lessons, or as a warm up in the afternoon. With 5 to 10 minutes a day you’ll then have a structured approach to arithmetic practice.
Teachers report faster and more accurate results on arithmetic tests as well as greater confidence and fluency.

"Third Space Learning resources are high quality, they save me so much time. My class have particularly benefited from Fluent in Five - they enjoy the daily challenge (which we do to funky music) and I have seen very good progress in their arithmetic fluency."
