Assessment and Diagnostics

Geometry Diagnostic Assessments Year 6

This pack of resources contains two diagnostic assessments for geometry, one pre and one post topic assessment. Each test contains 25 multiple choice questions with detailed answers that not only indicate the correct answer but also explain the distractor answers. You can use these tests to help you diagnose specific misconceptions and learning gaps before starting a block of learning and after the block has been completed.

These tests cover:

  • Drawing 2-D shapes using given dimensions and angles
  • Recognising and describing 3-D shapes (including recognising shapes from their nets)
  • Comparing shapes based on their properties and sizes
  • Finding angles (including angles in a shape, around a point, on a straight line and vertically opposite angles)
  • Identifying if a polygon is regular or irregular
  • Naming parts of a circle
  • Describing the position on a full coordinate grid and drawing on a grid using coordinates
  • Translating and reflecting shapes on a grid
