Four Operations with Money

The table shows the cost of the cinema. Use the table to answer the questions.

• How much does it cost for 1 adult and 1 child during peak time?
• How much does it cost for 1 adult and 1 child during off-peak time?
• What is the difference between an adult and a child ticket during peak time?
• How much does it cost for 1 adult and 2 children during off-peak time?
• An off-peak family ticket costs £30 (for 2 adults and 2 children). Is it cheaper to buy an off-peak family ticket or 2 adult and 2 children off-peak tickets?
• The cinema run a special deal on Monday where the tickets cost half the price of an off-peak ticket. How much are the adult and child tickets on Mondays?

• I have been given £5 to buy sweets. Chocolate cost 50p each and jelly sweets cost 40p each. How many books could I buy with my £5. Can you find different ways?

• £10.95 + £7.95 = £18.90
• £9.50 + £7.50 = £17.00
• £10.95 - £7.95 = £3.00
• £9.50 + £7.50 + £7.50 = £24.50
• (£9.50 x 2) + (£7.50 x 2) = £34.00 so it is cheaper to buy a family ticket.
• Half of £9.50 = £4.75, half of £7.50 = £3.75
